A Call for Balance

First, thank you . . . for what you’re doing, how you’re using your time, your voice, your heart and your wisdom to lift up, shield and demand justice for others;

Secondly, please remember . . . it’s your own internal balance that keeps you safe as you fight for what you believe.

For months I’ve been navigating the daily bedlam called life in America. Though I dreamed about running away, I opted to remain, fully understanding I was choosing a resistance lifestyle playbook. Consequently, I was committing to physically allowing my heart to work harder, and my body to produce the stress hormones and adrenalin necessary to keep my energy levels up for a long haul. And, I also knew if I wasn’t careful, burnout would come calling.

For many, resistance has become a nonstop, stress-filled, high-stakes, 5-alarm fire – a sure recipe for utter exhaustion and, in the long run, a possibly dangerous choice. Me? I needed to build a plan . . . one that not only fortifies me physically, but also protects me emotionally and mentally . . .  one that gives my heart and head the hope necessary to believe in positive possibilities.

I’m constantly on a quest for equilibrium – that rhythm between frustration and peace, fear and hope, chaos and harmony. In my life today, feeling positive means moments of balance . . . balance between my awareness of the unpredictable happenings at play beyond my control, and my decisions to be actively engaged, believing I can make a difference. Often times the aware me realizes I need to just let it go; other times, the engaged me chooses involvement. My when, where and how plan for balance makes the final choices.

And, thankfully, when we’re aware enough to appreciate it, good news presents itself to balance the daily grind. For example:

~Fort Collins, CO police implement the Blue Envelope Program, designed to make interactions with police safer and easier for drivers with communication-related disabilities.

~The United Nations’ top court rules that a healthy environment is a human right.

~79% of U.S. adults across the entire political spectrum affirm the importance of childhood vaccinations.

~The percentage of Americans who affirm the reality of climate change now outnumbers those who don’t believe in it by a ratio of more than four to one.

~Seven winners of the Nobel Prize for Economics call for appropriate taxation of the extremely wealthy.

Wishing you the joys of a balanced life where you eat healthily, sleep well and choose your battles with care. Eventually this chaos will pass, change will enter, and we’ll need a reservoir of hope, calm and power to build toward tomorrow. I’ll meet you there.

In hope,

Jane

Hi Pat - I so agree. Reading a collection of good news instead of continually listening to a list of ugly news keeps hope alive for me. Thanks for reading and replying.

Hi Jane, I always smile when your name pops up in my email. And odd that you wrote about this, chaos, exactly what my life has felt like, like that feeling of barely keeping your head above water and not being able to explain it anyone. I think of you so often. My Hunter would have been 25 coming up here in November, just so hard for my heart to brain to put that together. It just never really gets easier. I still thank you so much for writing my story. You have been tucked away in my heart and in my brain. I start writing every once in awhile, there is some need I think to tell more,…

Oh, my sweet friend - thank you for your message. I think of you as well. I so loved meeting and spending time with you. Your boys became mine as I wrote and you were my sister. I send you the grace of a peaceful heart and hope you can feel it surround you. You are loved, my dear Shelbie.
